Second Rig, More Meters, More Data: Formation Metals Advances N2 Gold Project Towards Resource Estimate

The N2 gold project is located in the Canadian province of Quebec

Formation Metals Inc. (CSE: FOMO; Germany: VF1) has mobilized a second drill rig to its flagship project, the N2 Gold Project (“N2”), in Québec. With this, Formation intends to accelerate the ongoing drilling program, which is designed for a total of 30,000 meters and is fully financed according to the company. The step aims to implement the currently ongoing Phase 1 with around 14,000 meters more quickly and thus lay the foundation for the next important project stage: an initial resource estimate according to NI 43-101 as early as the third quarter of 2026!

According to Formation Metals, the company has working capital of approximately CAD 12.1 million and is debt-free. Taking into account tax incentives from the province of Québec, Formation Metals estimates the exploration budget for 2025/2026 at approximately CAD 8.1 million, so nothing stands in the way of the announced, more aggressive drilling program. In the coming weeks, initial analysis results (assays) from the previous drilling will also be published; the company expects these from next week.

Formation Metals focuses on speed and data basis at the N2 Gold Project

The decision for a second drill rig not only falls in an environment of extremely high precious metal prices, but also in a phase in which Formation Metals has already completed part of the winter program. So far, 15 boreholes with a total of 4,348 meters have been drilled. According to the company, the focus is on broad, near-surface mineralized sections. As an example, Formation Metals mentions borehole N2-25-008, in which 208.8 meters of target mineralization were intersected from 28.6 meters borehole depth. Borehole N2-25-011 reportedly brought 166.8 meters of target mineralization from a depth of 60.0 meters. In addition, the company points out that nine of 13 boreholes have already encountered target mineralization within the first 25 meters and ten boreholes each delivered more than 80 cumulative meters of target mineralization.

It is important to note that the sections mentioned are based on observations and the definition of “target mineralization” within the program; reliable grades are to be confirmed via the outstanding analyses. In this context, Formation Metals emphasizes that the visually observed quartz-carbonate veining and sulfide mineralization is comparable to material that delivered long gold intervals in historical boreholes. As a reference, a historical borehole is mentioned that intersected 1.7 g/t gold over 35.0 meters.

With the second drill rig, Formation Metals now wants to systematically test prioritized targets in zones “A” and “RJ”. The company speaks of more than eight kilometers of strike length over which drilling is to take place along the corridor. At the same time, several discovery targets are to be tested, which were derived from earlier data records and geophysical work. CEO Deepak Varshney explains that drilling in the A zone is going well and that they are encouraged by what can be observed in the drill cores so far. Against the background of “visual continuity,” the acceleration of Phase 1 by a second drill rig was an obvious decision.

Phase 1 as the basis for resource estimation and conceptual open-pit scenario

According to Formation Metals, Phase 1 of the program is clearly structured: On the one hand, infill drilling is intended to increase the data density in near-surface areas in order to improve confidence in the modeling and, if necessary, convert categories. On the other hand, step-outs along the strike – especially to the west beyond historical resource boundaries – as well as tests in the down-dip direction are planned in order to investigate potential extensions of the mineralization. A third focus concerns metallurgy: Samples are to be taken from representative cores for confirmation work in order to check yields and processing assumptions.

Formation Metals is aligning the program with a “conceptual” open-pit resource. In this context, the first resource estimate is to be prepared after the completion of Phase 1. Almost 70,000 meters of drilling are to be incorporated – consisting of extensive historical data (according to the company, 55,517 meters) and the new drilling of the current campaign. The approach aims to update the historical basis and create a more consistent database through new drilling.

The N2 Gold Project has a global historical resource of approximately 871,000 ounces of gold. This is composed of approximately 18 million tonnes with 1.4 g/t gold (approximately 810,000 ounces) in four zones (A, East, RJ-East and Central) and 243,000 tonnes with 7.82 g/t gold (approximately 61,000 ounces) in the RJ zone. For the A zone, Formation Metals also refers to a historical partial size of approximately 522,900 ounces at 1.52 g/t gold; in the RJ zone, approximately 61,100 ounces are mentioned at 7.82 g/t gold, including historical high-grade short intervals.

Location in the Abitibi region and additional target directions including base metals

Geographically, the project is located in the Abitibi subprovince in northwestern Québec. Formation Metals describes N2 as consisting of 87 claims, with a total area of approximately 4,400 hectares. The property is located approximately 25 kilometers south of the mining town of Matagami and lies along the famous Casa Berardi trend. The communication also highlights the proximity to the former Vezza mine (approximately 1.5 kilometers east), which was in operation between 2013 and 2019.

In addition to the gold focus, Formation Metals also refers to the base metal potential on N2. A re-evaluation of historical data has revealed copper and zinc sections in boreholes with significant gold contents (>1 g/t Au). The analysis values mentioned range from 200 to 4,750 ppm for copper and from 203 to 6,700 ppm for zinc. The company describes the geology project-wide as a sequence of volcanic and sedimentary rocks that are integrated into regional fold structures; several deformation structures are considered to be significant controls of the mineralization.

With the mobilization of the second drill rig, Formation Metals is setting the course for faster progress in the winter program. However, the upcoming drilling results remain decisive for the next stage: According to the company, these should follow in the short term and should form the basis for further updates on the N2 Gold Project. We are very excited!
