Numerous new destinations open up potential for further discoveries

Abitibi Metals (WKN A3EWQ3 / CSE AMQ) increased the contained metal at its B26 copper and gold deposit to 307.9 million pounds of copper, 316.9 million pounds of zinc, 168,200 ounces of gold and 11.6 million ounces of silver – or 532.3 million pounds of copper equivalent – with the latest resource update recently published. However, this increase of over 60% is only an interim step, as the drills have already continued to turn during the resource calculation.

CEO Jonathon Deluce’s company has now succeeded in identifying additional, highly promising exploration targets by using new, cutting-edge geophysical techniques. Previously, electrical surveys could not distinguish between mineralization and pyritic/graphitic rock. However, new data processing tools and downhole gravity surveys, such as Gravilog, are now improving target discrimination at depth. Abitibi intends to use these and other customized geophysical techniques to better investigate the high-grade extension of the B26 deposit.

Promising initial test results

To date, the company has already discovered a new mass at a depth of 800 meters on the eastern side of the B26 deposit. This, it said, indicates high potential for strong sulphide and copper-zinc mineralization in an area that lies outside the already defined resource. This new target has a diameter of 400 to 500 metres and drill holes nearby show semi-massive mineralization.

In addition, Abitibi has discovered eight near-surface targets within the strike of B26 that extend to a distance of 6 kilometers west of the deposit. These targets are located within the 8.3 km long, cross-property contact that hosts the B26 deposit and where limited exploration work has been conducted in the past.

In addition, the company has identified four new targets in the northwest of B26 that are particularly prospective exploration targets and are on the same trend as the historic Selbaie mine.

For Abitibi CEO Jonathon Deluce, the discovery of these new prospective targets at the B26 project represents a significant advance in the company’s exploration strategy. The use of novel methods and the reinterpretation of historical data has allowed Abitibi Metals to improve target generation and expand the understanding of the deposit and the overall potential of the property. The new targets are now providing a compelling opportunity for resource expansion and discoveries in previously untested areas. Going forward, Mr. Deluce said, the company will continue to use state-of-the-art geophysical techniques in light of these successes in the exploration of B26.
