{kanada_flagge}With the spectacular success of Patriot Battery Metals (TSXV: PMET), all eyes have been on Quebec. But perhaps the next big lithium discovery in Canada will come from the province of Ontario. That there is great potential there is demonstrated by the latest discovery of 45 pegmatites at the White Willow lithium pegmatite project 170 km west of Thunder Bay by Usha Resources Ltd (TSXV: USHA; OTCQB: USHAF; FSE: JO0).
With the spectacular success of Patriot Battery Metals (TSXV: PMET), all eyes have been on Quebec.
In an exploration campaign lasting only three weeks, the lithium cesium tantalum (“LCT”) pegmatite trend on the property has been extended to a potential strike length of more than 25 km. As before, the trend is open at both ends. The property is in close proximity to other lithium projects in the region, such as the Seymour Lake lithium project, the Georgia Lake pegmatite field and the Separation Rapids lithium deposit, highlighting the rich lithium potential of the region.
Usha considers particularly promising a newly discovered advanced LCT swarm, “Bingo”, which extends over a length of ~2 km and includes two large pegmatites that outcrop over lengths of 600 and 450 meters, respectively, and have widths of up to 75 meters. If connected, they would form a single large vein ~1.2 km long. On-site analyses returned excellent mineralogical and geochemical indicators
The 158 samples taken have yet to go to the lab, but using a portable LIBS (laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy) analyzer, samples had lithium values as high as ~6,000 ppm and ~3,000 ppm in the host rock. 6,000 ppm would correspond to an equivalent value of 1.3% Li2O. A LIBS analyzer is a portable instrument that provides real-time geochemical concentrations. However, these readings are only an initial indication. They are not a substitute for required laboratory analysis.
Deepak Varshney, CEO of Usha Resources commented, “We are thrilled with the findings from the initial programs at White Willow,” said Deepak Varshney, CEO of Usha Resources. As seen at Patriot Battery Metals’ Corvette Project, which has over 20 kilometres of trend, lithium pegmatite swarms occur in clusters, each of which has the potential to become a deposit. With the discovery of the highly evolved pegmatite system at Bingo, we now have four primary target areas in our 25 kilometre plus trend, with significant ground remaining between Bingo and Maple Leaf for further exploration and follow-up on the initial LCT-pegmatites identified in between. With numerous potential spodumene-bearing targets, we believe Willow to be a flagship asset where Ontario’s next major lithium discovery will occur.”
Figure 1: The White Willow lithium pegmatite project meanwhile has 25 km strike. Excellent geochemical indicators based on the limited data obtained to date suggest that the vein swarm is highly developed. Among others, feldspar crystals up to one meter in size have been identified, suggesting that coarse-grained spodumene may be present at Bingo.
Jackpot Lake Exploration Update
In parallel, Usha is advancing its Jackpot Lake lithium brine project in Nevada. Drilling of the first hole with a stronger drill rig to target depth have been completed. Currently, the drill hole is being cleaned and secured for sampling. The drilling has deepened the basal sand and conglomerate zone to the bottom of the closed basin to approximately 1,950 feet (950 m) as planned. This increases the previously identified potentially pumpable zone from an interval of 273 feet (83 m) to a total of 423 feet (128 m). Evaluation of this zone is key because it is a potentially pumpable aquifer into which fluids drain from overlying zones. Such coarse-grained basal units are a key focus for expansion of Albemarle’s Silver Peak lithium brine mine and Pure Energy’s Clayton Valley project, where a large volume of brine with excellent grades has been identified in this zone.
