{australien_flagge}Recent diamond drilling (BBDD0012) at Tennant Minerals’ (ASX: TMS; FRA: UH7A) Bluebird copper-gold discovery at the Barkley Project near the mining town of Tennant Creek in Australia’s Northern Territory, has fully confirmed the geological model of expected copper-gold mineralization. From 155 meters depth, a 55 meter interval of strong to intense hematite and copper mineralization was intersected – only 20 meters to the west and deeper than the best hole to date, BBDD0009, which returned 50 meters of 2.7% Cu, 0.52 g/t gold and 29.8, g/t Ag.
While assay results from drill hole BBDD0012 are pending, it can already be said that the thickness of mineralization and intensity of copper mineralization at Bluebird is increasing to the west and to depth (Figure 1). Significantly, a previous reverse circulation drill hole in this section (BBRC019) at 3.9 g/t Au, 4.8% Cu was abandoned at the end of the drill hole after intersecting 15 m at 3.46% Cu, 0.61 g/t Au over 172 m3.

Drilling of the next diamond drill hole, BBDD0013; located a further 20m west and deeper than BBDD0012, is already underway (see Figure 2). On a weekly basis, Tennant Minerals plans to drill four more drill holes, each with close 20 m spacing, before 10 step-out holes are then planned. A total of 4,500 m of drill holes are planned. The current drill program is expected to expand the extent of the deposit to a scale comparable to other large copper-gold deposits in the Tennant Creek mineral field. These include the Peko deposit, located 20 km west of Bluebird, which produced 147,000 tonnes of copper grading 4% Cu and 414,000 ounces of gold at 10 g/t Au between 1934 and 19815 (see Figure 3).

CONCLUSION: Recent results confirm that Bluebird is a significant, high-grade copper-gold discovery within the known Tennant Creek mineral field. The parallels to historical mines nearby help to assess the potential of the Bluebird discovery. Tennant management hopes to be able to tell as early as after this drill program whether Bluebird can turn into as rich as a deposit as historic projects such as Peko, 20 km away. Not to be forgotten is Bluebird’s proximity to the high-grade historic Perseverance Gold Mine, just 1.5 km away which forms part of the Bluebird tenement. Tennant Minerals suspects a much bigger story. The company has just flown a drone magnetic survey over the entire 5 km Bluebird corridor. By combining magnetic data and gravity models, Tennant hopes to gain valuable insight into the potential for additional copper-gold discoveries within the project limits. Ironically, Tennant has the advantage of a first mover: it is the first company to systematically explore the area using modern methods after more than 100 years of mining history in the region. The results could be transformative for the Tennant Creek mining camp. We’ll stay tuned to the story.
