Important progress in realizing the project's
Quimbaya Gold (WKN A3DT3C / CSE QIM) is probably still flying under the radar of many investors, not only in Europe. However, this could soon change, as the gold company, which we believe is extremely exciting, is now significantly stepping up the pace of exploration at its main Tahami South project in Colombia.
Among other things, Tahami South is extremely promising as it is adjacent to the producing Segovia mine of Aris Mining (TSX ARIS, market-cap of more than $1bn). With a reserve grade of 10.8 g/t gold, Segovia is one of the highest-grade gold mines in the world and the cash cow for Aris. Quimbaya is currently working on a more accurate and comprehensive interpretation of the corridors of the known gold vein system in the area.
To this end, Quimbaya has now initiated a so-called LIDAR (Light imaging, detection and ranging) survey as the first official act of the new head of exploration activities Ricardo Sierra (Learn more), with which the company intends to obtain high-resolution geodata for topographic mapping and detailed terrain analysis. The resulting data will support ongoing exploration work at Tahami South by enabling Quimbaya to create accurate terrain models and improve understanding of surface features, which is important for project planning, exploration, drilling and decision-making.
In total, the study will cover an area of 575.10 hectares.
VP Exploration Ricardo Sierra stated, “Based on analysis of satellite imagery and available bibliographic data, it has been determined that the primary structural alignments in the area, including our neighbor’s (Aris Mining) operating mine to the south, are NE-SW, NW-SE and N-S. For this reason, the flight plan for the LIDAR survey will be oriented in an east-west direction. This orientation will allow for optimal data collection and improve the identification of key structural features, which will contribute to a more accurate and comprehensive interpretation of the corridors of the gold vein system in preparation for our 4,000 meters of drilling planned for the second quarter.”
The LIDAR survey now underway is an important step forward in realizing the potential of the Tahami South project, as the data obtained will help to “eliminate” vegetation cover. This will allow the vein systems of this promising area to be much better revealed and delineated. We can only agree with Alexandre P. Boivin, CEO of Quimbaya, who says: “Now it’s getting really exciting, because every methodological step brings us closer to our goal of making a high-grade gold discovery in this renowned gold-bearing area.” We are definitely keeping our fingers crossed and are eagerly awaiting the first drill holes later in the year!
