Excellent Starting Conditions

With the acquisition of the Matane project in the Canadian province of Quebec, where natural hydrogen is to be produced, Q Precious Battery Metals (CSE: QMET, WKN: A40QEV) has achieved a major breakthrough in recent weeks. This is complemented by the also decided cooperation with Québec Innovative Materials Corp. (QIMC). This collaboration begins with a strategic work program that the new partners want to establish and start shortly.

“Our collaboration with QIMC focuses on implementing state-of-the-art exploration methods to maximize the discovery and evaluation of natural clean hydrogen resources in this strategic region,” Richard Penn, President of Q Precious Battery Metals, stated on the occasion of presenting the joint work program for the project.

The initiative leverages QIMC’s cutting-edge expertise in hydrogen exploration and geological resource characterization to unlock the full potential of the Matane project for natural, clean hydrogen. The promising property is located in a tectonic transition zone between Cambro-Ordovician rocks (Taconic orogeny) and Silurian-Devonian formations (Acadian orogeny).

The geological environment is characterized by arkosic sedimentary rocks rich in potassium. They have the potential to release hydrogen and helium from the surrounding magnetites and peridotites. The required chemical process is facilitated by the presence of potassium, which decays during the process.

The important geological units are intersected by large fault structures, including the Shickshock South Fault, which could play a crucial role in the migration and entrapment of natural clean hydrogen.

The Matane Project Offers Excellent Conditions for Finding Natural Hydrogen

The Matane project thus offers a unique opportunity to apply QIMC’s extensive expertise in a promising geological environment, as the property extends over 26 km and follows a structural corridor that favors deep groundwater circulation and thus water-rock reactions essential for natural hydrogen generation.

From a logistical standpoint, the project is also an easily workable property, as Route 195 enables efficient mobilization of exploration teams and equipment.

Work Program and Expertise of QIMC

The Matane project’s work program is based on a scientific and technologically advanced approach, integrating QIMC’s industry-leading exploration methods. These include state-of-the-art soil sampling programs and the use of QIMC’s innovative methods, refined through groundbreaking discoveries in St-Bruno-de-Guigues. This provides the opportunity to identify and validate high-potential hydrogen-bearing zones.

These works are complemented by high-precision geophysical surveys. They involve the use of cutting-edge magnetic and gravimetric surveys to map ultramafic rock formations rich in olivine and magnetite, thereby improving target identification and exploration efficiency.

Hydrogeological and geochemical studies complete the picture by examining the role of deep groundwater circulation in the formation and accumulation of hydrogen. All these steps are not only very advanced but also offer the partners a good chance of success in the search for natural hydrogen.
