{australien_flagge}Following the seasonal break during the wet season in Australia’s Northern Territories, Tennant Minerals Limited (ASX: TMS; FRA: UH7A) has resumed drilling at its Barkly project, on the eastern edge of the historic Tennant Creek mining district. The Company plans to drill 5,000 meters of RC and diamond drilling on both its Bluebird copper discovery and adjacent step-out targets recently identified by IP geophysical surveys.
The objective of the campaign is to extend the high-grade copper-gold discovery along strike to the west, east and at depth. In particular, drilling is targeting a strong, newly defined geophysical anomaly that has the potential to more than double Bluebird’s footprint.
Figure 1: The Bluebird project began as a so-called “blind” discovery. Tennant has now discovered a new IP anomaly centered160 m east of Bluebird that is even stronger than the signature of Bluebird’s main zone itself. This suggests that the copper occurrence may continue or repeat to the east.
The new step-out IP target is more conductive than Bluebird’s Main Zone and thus represents a potential repeat of the high-grade copper-gold discovery at a similar shallow depth. As a result, the scope of the drill program has been expanded to include drilling of this new IP target, which provides strong signal from approximately 80 m below surface. Based on the new IP data, Tennant geologists now interpret Bluebird as a large, double-dipping dilatation zone that could extend over a strike length of more than 500m.
The new drill program builds on recent spectacular results at Bluebird, including: 30.5m @ 6.2% Cu, 6.8 g/t Au from 153.6m including 17.8m @ 5.2% Cu, 11.5 g/t Au (BBDD0018); 63m @ 2.1% Cu, 4.6 g/t Au from 153m including. 27.55m @ 3.6% Cu, 10.0 g/t Au (BBDD0012).and 24m @ 0.66% Cu, 11.8 g/t Au aabout 161m incl. 5.7m @ 0.74% Cu, 49.3 g/t Au (BBDD0021).
Other targets in the Bluebird Corridor
Geophysical surveys have already identified additional targets west of Bluebird within the 2.5km Bluebird-Perseverance corridor (see Figure 2). Tennant is working to establish additional IP profiles across the corridor to define additional priority targets. Initial near surface drilling on selected targets within the corridor intersected mineralized structures above the interpreted copper-gold zones. Full results from these recently completed RC and diamond drill holes are pending.

Figure 3: Location of the Barkly project with Bluebird and Perseverance in the context of the main historic mines in the Tennant Creek mining district.
Summary: Copper-gold mineralization at the Bluebird discovery is typical of the high-grade copper-gold orebodies in the historic Tennant Creek mining district, which produced more than 5.5 million ounces of gold and 700,000 tons of copper from 1934 to 2005. But Tennant is the first company to systematically use advanced IP surveying in the area to detect blind deposits at surface. It is becoming increasingly clear that while profitable historic mining around Tennant Creek has reaped the low-hanging fruit, the potential of the mining district has been vastly underestimated. Tennant’s work could uncover interrelated clusters and lead to a renaissance of the entire mining district.
