{kanada_flagge}Sitka Gold Corp. (CSE:SIG; FRA:1RF; OTCQB:SITKF) has hired long-time Yukon Geological Survey Director Mike Burke as Director of Corporate Development. This move strengthens the Company’s technical and capital market access capabilities. Burke has an international reputation as an effective intermediary between the exploration industry and the financial community.
He was head of the Yukon Geological Survey for 20 years and therefore knows the terrain inside out. During countless presentations and interviews over the years, Burke has built a substantial network of industry contacts with investment bankers, financial institutions and mining analysts around the world. In particular, Burke rates the 2021 discovery hole at the Blackjack Zone on Sitka’s RC Gold property as a milestone development for Sitka, with a result of 220.1 metres at 1.17 g/t gold (see news release dated February 17, 2022).
Cor Coe, Director & CEO of Sitka stated, “I am very pleased to welcome Mike to Sitka’s Board of Directors and as VP of Corporate Development. “Mike brings to our team an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience gained over his many years as a professional geologist in both the private and public sectors. Throughout his career, he has played an integral role in advancing the resource sector in Yukon.”
Mike Burke added, “I am very pleased to join the team at Sitka Gold whose tenacity has led to a significant discovery on the RC Gold property in the Yukon portion of the Tombstone Gold Belt. The potential of the Tombstone gold belt in Yukon is currently being recognized through the successful mining of the Eagle gold deposit by Victoria Gold Corp. and the historic production of Sabre Gold’s Brewery Creek mine.”
A number of other companies are also active in Tombstone belts. Recent new discoveries include the Eagle Deep, Raven and Lynx zones by Victoria Gold, as well as the discovery and expansion of deposits at Banyan Gold’s Aurmac project and new discoveries by Snowline Gold Corp at its Jupiter and Valley Gold targets.
Mike Burke, B.Sc., P.Geo. has over 35 years of experience in the mining industry, primarily in the Yukon. Mike’s career spans a wide range of experience, including 20 years with the Yukon Geological Survey where he was Director of Mineral Services. Mike also gained experience as an exploration and mine geologist earlier in his career and was fortunate to be part of the exploration team that discovered the Sa Dena Hes lead-zinc mine and the Ketza River gold mine in the Yukon. Most recently, Mike Burke was Chief Geologist at Golden Predator in Yukon and Senior Operations Manager at Ensero Solutions, an environmental and engineering consulting firm.
Mr. Burke holds a BSc in Geology from the University of British Columbia, is a Professional Geologist with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, and a member of the Society of Economic Geologists. In addition, Mike is a director of the Yukon Chamber of Mines (YCM). He has served on the YCM Board of Directors continuously since 2013 and held the position of President from 2015 to 2019.
Bottom line: the quality of a corporation grows with the quality of its directors. It speaks volumes that a man of Mike Burkes’ caliber is joining the Sitka team at this particular time. The connection with the Blackjack 2021 discovery hole is obvious. Currently, as you know, follow-up drilling is underway below and adjacent to the Blackjack discovery and more results should be available shortly. If these results further confirm the recent discovery, this should give Sitka access to a new layer of investors. Mike Burke would be just the man to then bring these investors on board. We are keeping our fingers crossed for Sitka.
