{kanada_flagge}As announced to Goldinvest.de at PDAC, the world’s largest mining trade show in Toronto, Canadian gold explorer Sitka Gold (WKN A2JG70 / CSE SIG) has kicked off the next drill program at its RC Gold project in the Yukon. And with the very first drill hole the company encountered numerous, visible gold grains!
The first drill program of 2023 is primarily intended to expand the higher-grade part of the Blackjack gold deposit with extension drilling. Here Sitka has already demonstrated an inferred resource of 900,000 ounces at 0.83 g/t gold. The Eiger deposit – 440,000 ounces at 0.50 g/t gold – is also to be expanded this year.
Between Blackjack and Eiger lies a 1.5 kilometer long mineralized corridor, most of which has yet to be drill tested. Here, the company sees the potential to connect the two known deposits with gold mineralization – through the Saddle Zone. Understandably, this corridor will also be the focus of diamond core drilling this year.
And Sitka has certainly made a promising start with drill hole DDRCCC-23-041! Hole 41 was drilled 160 meters south of discovery hole DDRCCC-21-021 (hence Blackjack) and encountered the expected metasedimentary rock unit with weak quartz-sulfide veins from the collar to 184 meters depth, where it then merged into a series of narrow intrusive dykes and sills with significantly increased vein density and visible gold occurrences that continued from 232 to 347 meters depth into the main megacrystalline intrusion. From 347 to 438 meters depth is another zone of intrusive dykes and sills with a significant density of quartz sulphide veins, similar to above and comparable to the core of the Blackjack deposit. At 438 meters, the hole intersected a 17 meter wide postmineral dyke followed by intrusive rocks with variable quartz-sulfide veins to the end of the hole at 518.8 meters.
Explaining what all this means, CEO Cor Coe says: “The geological indicators observed in our first extension hole of the year are very encouraging. The concentration of gold grains observed in hole 41 far exceeds anything we have seen to date and was encountered near the beginning of what appears to be a well-mineralized intercept. Given the impressive visual observations, hole 41 is expected to extend what appears to be a high-grade core of the Blackjack gold deposit further to the east and at depth. Drilling 2023 at RC Gold is off to a great start and we look forward to the significant progress this year’s activity should bring to the project.”
