{australien_flagge} In scant words, Conico Ltd (ASX: CNJ; FRA: BDD) has announced that drilling has begun at its flagship Ryberg project in East Greenland. In addition, a crew with the vessel has since landed at Mestersvig some 600 kilometers to the north and is also preparing to drill there. Drilling at Mestersvig is scheduled to begin this week.
The first drill holes at Ryberg are targeting PGE-gold mineralization at Cascata (CADD003) and copper-nickel-PGE-gold mineralization at Sortekap (SODD004). These holes are also in the early stages because they required minimal movement of existing drill rigs. At Cascata, only a single hole will be drilled initially to intersect the suspected PGE-gold horizon. If this is successful and the dip of this horizon is established, the crew then intends to calculate where the mineralization is closer to the surface and more accessible.
Figure 1: Geologists interpret Cascata as an analogy to the neighboring Skaergaard deposit. A PGE-AU horizon (red) is being sought.
The new prospects identified during the 2021 aero-magnetic survey will also be investigated for the first time in the coming days. The targets include Pyramids, Quest and Qiterpiaaneq, among others.
Figure 2: The Pyramids target, with its footprint of more than 3 kilometers, was one of the most prominent magnetic features during last year’s survey. Conico geologists will be the first to sample and evaluate from there.
Conclusion: Conico has handled the logistical challenges in East Greenland superbly so far this season. Despite pack ice, the crews are on site much earlier this year and are working from fixed camps in both Ryberg and Mestersvig. This increases efficiency and one can look forward to a lot of data from both projects. At the same time, the special nature of Ryberg cannot be overemphasized: Conico’s geologists are operating on virgin terrain. The big targets Pyramids, Quest and Qiterpiaaneq are known only from the air. No one has ever been on the ground! In the age of Google Earth, this is a fascinating idea. We are curious to see what the geologists bring back from their expedition.
