Ten primary targets identified
Geochemical evaluation of now 618 rock samples at the White Willow lithium pegmatite project, 170 km west of Thunder Bay, Ontario, suggests strong potential for spodumene-bearing veins on the property. After five weeks of fieldwork, Usha Resources Ltd (TSXV:USHA; OTCQB:USHAF; FWB:JO0) has already identified ten key drill targets over a strike length of 25km. Before the onset of winter, the company has now sent another two teams to the field to record maximum information for up to six weeks. Further mapping, sampling and prospecting will be carried out to best prepare for the planned winter drilling.
The potassium/rubidium ratio (K/Rb) is considered an important indicator in the identification of spodumene-bearing veins. K/Rb ratios of <30 are indicative of rare earth pegmatites and <20 of spodumene subtype category pegmatites. Values below 10 are often associated with economically mineable spodumene pegmatites. To date, 10 pegmatites with K/Rb ratios of <30 have been identified with a lowest value of 7.5. The company intends to drill at each of the 10 target pegmatites as part of its initial drilling programme. Highlights of the results include up to 0.5% Li2O, 1,730 ppm caesium, 120,000 ppm tantalum and 3,540 ppm rubidium.
The focus of the third phase of fieldwork is on detailed examination of the targets at Bingo and Maple Leaf and further exploration and evaluation of the terrain between these two lithium caesium tantalum (LCT) pegmatite swarms.
Deepak Varshney, CEO of Usha Resources commented, “We are excited by the results at White Willow. We now have 10 primary targets on our 25+ km trend, including two strongly developed LCT pegmatite swarms on Bingo and Maple Leaf. There is still a lot of land between Bingo and Maple Leaf that can be explored further and subjected to follow-up surveys. The results to date reinforce our belief that Willow is a flagship project that will host Ontario’s next major lithium discovery.”
Conclusion: Even if no one in the stock market cares at the moment. What is certain is that Usha Resources is operating solidly and systematically making great progress in the exploration of its White Willow project. 10 qualified drill targets in a short period of time are a statement. While only experts are likely to be able to properly classify the detailed analytical results at the moment, this is also an important target group, as they often advise funds looking for investments in the sector. The high-grade occurrence of 14.64% Ta2O5 at the Maple Leaf vein should make the experts sit up and take notice. This is because coarse-grained tantalite with comparable grades has so far only been found in the North Aubrey pegmatite on Green Technology Metals' (GT1) Seymour Lake project. There, GT1 has identified a resource of 9.9 million tons with 1.04% Li2O. Incidentally, it is known that lithium pegmatite swarms occur in groups. So White Willow still has a lot of potential to grow.
