{kanada_flagge}Nicola Mining Inc (TSX.V: NIM; FRA: HLI) is bringing on board the University of British Columbia’s (“UBC”) and UBC’s Mineral Deposit Research Unit (“MDRU”) as partners in the exploration of its New Craigmont copper porphyry project near Merritt, British Columbia. The Company announced that the partners have entered into a funding agreement to this effect. They intend to jointly explore the potential of the New Craigmont copper porphyry system. In particular, it is hoped that the use of newer geophysical technologies such as ZTEM (Z-Tipper Axis Survey) can help in the search for porphyry copper targets.
The timing for Nicola is opportune as information from the recently completed 998 line-kilometre ZTEM electromagnetic survey over the entire New Craigmont area will be arriving shortly and can be integrated into the geological model.
Peter Espig, Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are very pleased to be working with MDRU on this project and believe it is well suited to the New Craigmont project, which is Canada’s highest grade historic large copper mine.”
MDRU is a partnership between UBC’s Mineral Deposit Research Unit, Lakehead University and the Universities of Alberta and Calgary, and 15 partner organizations, which include Nicola Mining Inc. focused on improving the discovery rate of porphyry copper deposits. On May 12, 2022, MDRU announced the award of CAD 2,700,000 from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Alliance Program (with $1,350,000 in cash contributions from industry).
