Ecograf plans industrial scale product testing at new Perth plant in first quarter 2024

EcoGraf Limited (ASX: EGR; FSE: FMK; OTCQX: ECGFF) plans to commission one of the most advanced processing facilities for refining natural graphite as early as the first quarter of 2024. The site of the so-called Product Qualification Facility (“PQF”) will be an industrial property near Perth, Western Australia.

The total cost of the facility is estimated at A$5.8 million, half of which (A$2.9 million) will be subsidised by public funding. The new facility sets the stage for the global commercialisation of Ecograf’s patented HFfree™ technology for battery graphite. Potential customers have shown strong interest in the capability of the company’s US-patented HFfree purification technology. The ability to process industrial product samples from the company’s own Epanko mine or from third party material is a prerequisite for concluding offtake discussions with potential anode, battery and electric vehicle customers in Europe, North America and Asia.

The PQF will process spherical graphite using EcoGraf’s proprietary HFfree purification technology to produce purified spherical graphite (active anode material)

As previously announced, the company has assessed the viability of locating its mechanical shaping operations in Tanzania, with savings of up to 50% in production costs possible due to the ability to utilise Tanzania’s low-cost, renewable energy. Combined with Tanzania’s logistical proximity to key battery markets, in-country mechanical shaping supplies uncleaned spherical graphite to global battery production centres for purification to produce active anode material.

Conclusion: EcoGraf is working single-mindedly towards its vision of becoming a vertically integrated supplier of purified natural graphite. A structural shortage of graphite in the battery supply chain is emerging from 2025 at the latest. Experts predict that the global battery market will grow at a CAGR of ~24% over the next 10 years. EcoGraf intends to take advantage of this opportunity and operate graphite purification plants in key battery market regions.
