Validation of the purification process for commercial production now possible
EcoGraf Limited (ASX: EGR; FSE: FMK; OTCQB: ECGFF) has successfully commissioned the world’s first HFfree™ graphite purification plant for the production of battery anode material for lithium-ion batteries. This week saw the first continuous operation with uncleaned spherical graphite concentrate. This is now followed by 24-hour operation. The company has also published images of the product qualification facility (“PQF”) for the first time (see Figure 1). In total, the plant was co-financed by public funding from the Commonwealth Government’s Critical Minerals Development Program to the tune of AUD 2.9 million.
The successful completion of the PQF will enable the validation of the EcoGraf HFfree™ purification process for commercial production and the provision of product samples to potential customers. The operation also provides an important basis for future lending for commercial facilities at other sites in Europe, North America and Asia. EcoGraf is working on site studies with potential lithium-ion battery manufacturers.
An independent benchmarking study was recently published for the EcoGraf HFfree™ cleaning process compared to alternative cleaning processes for the production of anode material for lithium-ion batteries. The study confirms the competitiveness of the HFfree™ process compared to the other cleaning methods.
EcoGraf is now looking to replicate the results of previous cycle tests in its PQF, which achieved 99.99% carbon purity. The company has announced further updates in the near future.
