{kanada_flagge}The explorer Gold Lion Resources (CSE: GL; FRA: 2BC) switches from gold to lithium and is promptly rewarded by the stock market with a share price fireworks. The company is currently benefiting from the run on lithium hard rock projects in Canada, especially in Quebec. More specifically, Gold Lion has secured promising licenses right next to the new lithium shooting star Q2 Metals (TSXV: QWTO; FRA: 458) (see Figure 1). Shares of role model Q2 Metals – which itself is linked to high-flyer Patriot Battery Metals (TSX: PMET) – have risen an even tenfold since December 2022, and investors are just putting CAD10 million into the company in a financing. By comparison, Q2 Metals brings it to about CAD 70 million in market value. This compares to Gold Lion’s CAD 7 million market capitalization! Neither company has drilled yet.

Gold Lion’s Mia Li-3 lithium project is located about 15 kilometers northwest of Q2 Metals Corp.’s Mia Li-1 and Mia Li-2 projects in the James Bay region of Quebec. The Mia Li-3 project is directly adjacent to a license that Q2 has very recently acquired. Apparently, Q2 Metals geologists interpret the Mia 3 trend as a possible parallel to their Mia Li-1 and 2 pegmatites further south, where numerous pegmatite intrusions have been noted along the 8.3-kilometre trend.

A 1959 report describes the pegmatite dykes as being up to 30.5 meters wide and frequently zoned, with spodumene crystals up to 0.61 meters long. The westernmost mineral occurrences of the Mia Li-1 and 2 projects were sampled by Quebec government geologists in 1997 and returned promising grades of 0.47% Li2O and 2.27% Li2O, respectively. The southern half of the Mia Li-1 and 2 projects comprises an intrusive body described as spodumene granite, according to Quebec provincial government records.
Figure 1: Here’s to being a good neighbor! The Mia Li-3 lithium project is directly adjacent to a new Q2 Metals project in Quebec.
Conclusion: Canada still has a huge catch-up potential in terms of lithium exploration. While Australia has led the world in lithium production since 2017, there is not a single lithium mine in all of Canada yet! It is therefore no coincidence that especially Australian investors are currently entering Quebec, as shown by the examples of PMET and also Q2 Metals, among others. Only in the next two years the first lithium mines will probably start production in Canada. For now, the pipeline for new projects is being filled. Gold Lion is contributing its part with Mia Li-3. We will stay tuned to the company.
