The Tahami South project of Quimbaya Gold (CSE QIM / Frankfurt K05) is located in one of the richest gold-producing regions of Colombia and, moreover, in close proximity to Aris Mining’s flagship Segovia mine (>13.8 million ounces of gold). Quimbaya believes that the mineralization known at Segovia extends to their own project area and therefore wants to conduct their first drilling as quickly as possible. To prepare for this, Quimbaya recently carried out various exploration programs, which are now bearing golden fruit!
As CEO Alexandre P. Boivin announced early this morning, these surface investigations have once again confirmed the prospectivity of the area! Among other things, they discovered high-grade precious metal contents of up to 11.21 g/t gold and 6 g/t silver in rock samples, as well as 1.4 g/t gold and 23.3 g/t silver in panel rock samples! As if that weren’t enough, they also encountered classic epithermal pathfinder geochemistry (indicators of gold and silver mineralization) and strong structural controls.
Overall, Quimbaya emphasizes, these results largely align with the known mineralization types in this area and provide a solid technical foundation for the company’s upcoming drilling campaign in the second quarter of 2025. With this, the company aims to develop a potentially significant high-grade vein system along this little-explored extension of the Segovia trend.
Exploration Success Underscores the Potential of the Target Area
The key technical highlights:
• Surface rock samples in Tahami South yielded high gold values of up to 11.21 g/t gold, with several samples exceeding 1 g/t gold, supporting the company’s thesis of a robust precious metal system at the surface. These results were obtained from 60 channel and grab samples over an area of 144 hectares of jungle-covered terrain – a success at an early stage that underscores the potential of the target area.
• In addition to the strong gold values, the geochemical suite consistently shows elevated levels of key indicator elements such as arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn), all of which are characteristic of epithermal to intermediate sulfidation systems as they occur along the Segovia-Zaragoza trend. Selected samples also yielded anomalous molybdenum values of up to Mo@ 70 ppm, further supporting the potential for structural overlays or hybrid mineralization events.
Taken together, these signatures confirm that the project aligns with the geological architecture and mineralization types that have led to some of Colombia’s most significant gold discoveries.
• The company’s use of geological mapping, Lidar, and systematic geochemical sampling follows the discovery techniques that, according to Dr. Stewart Redwood, have been responsible for most significant gold discoveries in Antioquia over the past 50 years.
Quimbaya views this detailed surface work as a crucial step in its exploration strategy, intended to help identify and refine the most promising targets for the initially planned 4,000-meter drilling program, set to begin in the second quarter of this year. The results of this exploration program, the company is confident, form the basis for a successful campaign on Tahami South, as they not only confirm Quimbaya’s exploration model but also increase the geologists’ confidence in the overall potential of Tahami South as a high-grade, district-scale gold system!
Dr. Stewart D. Redwood, Economic Geologist and SEG Member, commented: “Tahami South exhibits all the essential characteristics of a fertile gold system in the exploration phase: high gold grades at the surface, well-developed quartz-sulfide veins, and a classic pathfinder suite with arsenic, antimony, lead, and zinc – all within a structural corridor that aligns with known productive trends in Antioquia. These are the indicators that have preceded many of the most significant discoveries in Colombia. When supported by systematic mapping and geochemistry, as Quimbaya is doing here, such signatures significantly increase the likelihood of encountering a significant mineralized system.”
Quimbaya Gold CEO Alexandre Boivin also believes that all signs so far indicate that the company could be sitting on a potentially significant discovery here. And that’s precisely why, he continues, they are pursuing such a disciplined and methodical approach. Especially when examining such a system for the first time, it’s important to carry out all the preliminary steps correctly. Mr. Boivin further states that they have successfully done this, and based on this foundation, they are now very confident about the upcoming drilling!
We have been pointing out the potential of Quimbaya Gold and its Tahami project to our readers for some time now and are just as excited as the CEO about the successful preparatory measures – and now even more excited about the upcoming drilling! As the company has only just received this important new information, we imagine it may take some time for it to be incorporated into the drilling plans. We will definitely stay on top of this!
