Significant Progress in Realizing Project Potential
Quimbaya Gold (CSE QIM / WKN A3DT3C) is likely still flying under the radar for many investors, not just in Europe. However, this could soon change, as the gold company, which we consider extremely exciting, is now significantly increasing the pace in exploring its main project, Tahami South in Colombia.
Tahami South is particularly promising, among other reasons, because it borders the producing Segovia mine of the billion-dollar corporation Aris Mining (TSX ARIS). With a reserve grade of 10.8 g/t gold, Segovia is one of the highest-grade gold mines worldwide and the cash cow for Aris. Currently, Quimbaya’s focus is on creating a more accurate and comprehensive interpretation of the corridors of the known gold vein system in the area.
To this end, Quimbaya has now initiated a so-called LIDAR (Light imaging, detection and ranging) survey, as virtually the first official act of the new head of exploration activities, Ricardo Sierra (We reported.). With this survey, the company aims to obtain high-resolution geodata for topographic mapping and detailed terrain analysis. The data obtained will support ongoing exploration work on Tahami South, as Quimbaya can use it to create accurate terrain models and improve understanding of surface features, which is crucial for project planning, exploration, drilling, and decision-making.
In total, the study will cover an area of 575.10 hectares.
VP Exploration Ricardo Sierra explained: “Based on the analysis of satellite imagery and available bibliographic data, it was determined that the primary structural alignments in this area, including the operational mine of our neighbor to the south (Aris Mining), run in NE-SW, NW-SE, and N-S directions. For this reason, the flight plan for the LIDAR survey will be oriented in an east-west direction. This orientation will allow optimal data collection and improve the identification of important structural features, contributing to a more accurate and comprehensive interpretation of the gold vein system corridors in preparation for our 4,000-meter drilling planned for the second quarter.”
The LIDAR survey now underway is a significant advance in realizing the potential of the Tahami South project, as the data obtained will help to factor out the vegetation cover. This will allow for a significantly better uncovering and delineation of the vein systems in this promising area. We can only agree with Alexandre P. Boivin, CEO of Quimbaya, who says: “Now it’s getting really exciting because every methodical step brings us closer to our goal of making a high-grade gold discovery in this renowned gold-bearing area.” We are definitely keeping our fingers crossed and are already eagerly awaiting the first drilling later this year!
