Major Project in Peru: Cerro de Pasco Kicks Off Next Phase of Work with 12.3t Bulk Sample

Quiulacocha Tailings Project Cerro de Pasco Resources

Cerro de Pasco Resources consolidates technical, environmental, and permitting work for Quiulacocha in Peru – and provides the data basis for the next testing and engineering steps with 12.3 tonnes of bulk material.

Cerro de Pasco Resources (TSXV: CDPR; Frankfurt: N8HP; WKN: A2N7XK) has presented an operational update on the Quiulacocha Tailings Project, highlighting the completion of key work streams from 2025. The Canadian company is positioning the project, which includes, among other things, silver-rich tailings that have accumulated over more than 100 years of mining, for the next phase of implementation – with the aim of launching a combined solution of tailings reprocessing and environmental remediation.

The focus is on the project area within the El Metalurgista concession in the Cerro de Pasco region (Peru). According to Cerro de Pasco Resources, essential technical investigations were consolidated in the course of 2025, environmental baseline data were collected over several seasons, and permitting and site access issues were advanced in a structured manner. The update builds on the progress already communicated in December 2025 and is intended to show which building blocks have now been brought together to prepare the next stage of development.

Cerro de Pasco Resources completes Phase 1 programs for technical “readiness”

From the company’s perspective, a core task in 2025 was to define the technical starting point in such a way that later decisions on process control, plant design and project implementation are based on reliable data. Cerro de Pasco Resources reports on integrated Phase 1 programs that cover, among other things, mineralogy, metallurgy, rheology, as well as geotechnical and hydrogeological aspects. The work package also included investigations into possible settlements (subsidence) and the validation of borehole spacings and resource modeling methods.

It is important to note that several laboratories were involved in the metallurgical characterization. According to the company, these test series are intended to provide a technical basis for further scaling tests, the optimization of a process flowsheet and downstream engineering considerations. Such trade-off studies are usually crucial for tailings projects because metal recovery, process chemistry, material handling and environmental requirements are closely linked.

In parallel, Cerro de Pasco Resources also states that it has completed logistical and infrastructural pre-studies. Options for handling, temporary storage and transport of concentrates were investigated – including alternatives via road, rail or potentially pipeline-based approaches. The company classifies this work within the framework of project execution planning and emphasizes that the results should be incorporated into further engineering assessments.

Permits, baseline data and access: Framework for the next project phase

In addition to the technical side, Cerro de Pasco Resources highlights the environmental and permitting work as a second focus. Accordingly, geochemical baseline programs were completed over the dry and rainy seasons, with sampling at more than 60 locations. In addition, preliminary geotechnical and hydrogeological studies have been finalized to support stability modeling, risk assessments and the planning of a Phase 2 drilling program.

On the regulatory front, Cerro de Pasco Resources reports that the “Declaración de Impacto Ambiental” (DIA) for the Phase 1 drilling program has been completed. For Phase 2, another DIA has been submitted for drilling activities within an existing area of the El Metalurgista concession. This was accompanied by a Surface Use Agreement with the Community of Quiulacocha, which is intended to secure ongoing access for current and future technical work.

The company also emphasizes that technical, regulatory and stakeholder-related foundations for a Tailings Reprocessing Application have been consolidated. The aim behind this: To position the project not only as a processing initiative, but as a comprehensive approach that includes the historical tailings around El Metalurgista and creates a formalized basis for further steps.

12.3 tonnes of bulk sampling: Material for tests under representative conditions

Cerro de Pasco Resources reports a tangible milestone for the second half of December 2025: A Phase 1 bulk sampling program was carried out on the Quiulacocha tailings facility between December 16 and 19. According to the company, fresh and representative material was extracted by shallow excavation. A total of around 12.3 tonnes of raw material was extracted, packaged and transported to Lima under frozen conditions.

There, the material will be chemically analyzed and metallurgically tested. The aim is to validate the metallurgical performance under representative conditions and thus support the ongoing technical assessment, the flowsheet development and later scale-up studies. Especially for tailings projects, large-scale sample material can help to verify process assumptions from laboratory and small-scale tests – for example with regard to variability, grain size distribution, water balance, reagent consumption or filtration and dewatering properties.

Cerro de Pasco Resources describes the large-scale sampling program as a building block for the transition to the next project phase. In the upcoming work steps, it will be crucial how the results from laboratory analysis and metallurgical tests are translated into concrete engineering decisions – and how permits, stakeholder management and project logistics interact. One thing is clear: With the now communicated bundling of the Phase 1 programs and the test material obtained, Cerro de Pasco Resources wants to structure the path towards project implementation and prepare the next technical course settings.
