Exploration Thesis Confirmed
The crews of the Canadian uranium company Aero Energy (TSXV AERO / Frankfurt UU3) have not been idle over the summer – quite the contrary. As the company reports today, drilling has now been completed on the Sun Dog uranium project in northwestern Saskatchewan. The aim was to test the newly discovered Wishbone target area. Aero suspects high-grade uranium deposits contained in the basement rock, typical of the famous Athabasca Basin. And they have succeeded in confirming this hypothesis!
As reported by Standard Uranium, which is conducting the investigations in collaboration with Aero Energy, eight drill holes with a total length of 1,593 meters were completed. These targeted near-surface, high-grade uranium mineralization in the basement rock of the Wishbone area – and encountered anomalously high radioactivity of more than 300 cps (clicks per second) in seven out of eight boreholes!
Not only that, the company also announced that they encountered highly graphitic breccia in both limbs of Wishbone, which coincides with widespread, very promising clay-sericite alteration and hydrothermal hematite. And this rock as well as these alteration products, according to Aero, represent an ideal environment for basement-hosted uranium deposits!
Exploration Thesis Confirmed
With this, the company further states, they have also confirmed the exploration thesis mentioned above. The increased radioactivity and increased alteration at Wishbone are largely associated with stacked graphitic structural zones. This, according to Aero, indicates favorable corridors for fluid movements and uranium deposition – very similar to other Athabasca uranium deposits in basement rock.
Now Aero and Standard are – undoubtedly impatiently – waiting for the results of the drill core analysis! Additional geophysical surveys are planned and a second drilling phase is also scheduled to sink further boreholes along the strike from the mineralized drillings. Furthermore, particularly promising regional drill targets in the project area will continue to be investigated.
Drill Results in the Coming Weeks
Aero CEO Galen McNamara considers the results of the initial drilling in the Wishbone area to be “extremely promising” and sees them as a confirmation of confidence in Sun Dog’s prospectivity. Understandably, he wants to continue with the work as quickly as possible to realize the full potential of this promising region. In the coming weeks, Mr. McNamara continues, they will first present the initial drill results.
