Results expected inside of to weeks

The success story of  Aston Bay (TSX.V: BAY, FSE: 6AY, WKN: A2AUFP) and partner American West Metals at the Storm copper project in the Canadian province of Nunavut continues. This year’s summer drilling program is far from complete but can already be considered a success, as the partners have among other things intersected up to 121.2 metres of ore with continuous visually visible copper mineralisation in recent drilling.

A further 22 drill holes over 8,300 metres of the extensive drilling programme, which is designed for more than 20,000 metres of drilling, have now been completed and the first laboratory results are expected in the next two weeks. The shareholders of American West and Aston Bay are therefore eagerly awaiting the answer to the question of whether this year’s drilling can match last year’s outstanding results, which included 3% copper over 48.8 metres at a depth of just 32.4 metres.

The chances of this are good, as all nine step-out drill holes on the Thunder prospect intersected thick zones of visible copper mineralisation. This has extended the known Thunder mineralisation to over 300 metres along strike and significantly increased the potential for resource definition.

Hole SR24-042 intersected a continuous 73.2 metre long zone of visible copper sulphide mineralisation at only 45.7 metres depth, while hole SR24-034 intersected a continuous 121.2 metre long interval of visible copper sulphide mineralisation at 18.3 metres depth. Despite these successes, the high-grade copper zone of the Thunder deposit remains open along strike and at depth. In particular, the depth potential has still not been accurately determined as drilling has only reached to a maximum vertical depth of approximately 100 metres.

Success at the Cyclone prospect, too

Aston Bay Holdings and American West were also able to achieve very good results in the Cyclone target area. Here, thick intersections with visible copper sulphides were intersected in several drill holes. These included several hits that lay outside the known resource area. They increase the potential to increase the known resource.

Holes SR24-031 and SR-055 were drilled to the north-east of the Cyclone prospect. They extended mineralisation along strike with intercepts of 53.4m (total) and 80.7m of continuous visible copper mineralisation respectively. These successes were complemented by holes SR24-045 and SR24-049 which intersected thick intervals of visible semi-massive sulphides in the southern and western parts of the mineralised zone.

Visual observations and mineral abundance estimates are a first useful guide. However, they cannot replace exact analyses from the laboratory. Aston Bay and American West are therefore understandably eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first results from the laboratory. However, they can look forward to them with justifiable anticipation, as the results of the portable measuring devices used on site also currently point towards confirmation of the optical findings.

Of the planned total of 20,000 metres of drilling, around 60 reverse circulation drill holes with a length of approximately 7,660 metres and six diamond drill holes with a length of approximately 677 metres have been completed. American West and Aston Bay are therefore well on track to complete the programme as planned and to drill the planned 20,000 metres.
